PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
The Grace Point Academy philosophy of education is to prepare young people to think for themselves and arrive at Godly wisdom by imparting the tools of learning and a foundation in a bible-based education. Our goal is to teach the classics, the love of God and country, and raise God-loving citizens who will change the world forever.
In the book Battle for the American Mind, the authors state, “Today, after 16,000 hours of K-12 indoctrination, our kids come out of government schools hating America. They roll their eyes at religion and disdain our history. We spend more money on education than ever, but kids can barely read and write—let alone reason with discernment. Western culture is on the ropes. Kids are bored and aimless, flailing for purpose in a system that says racial and gender identity is everything.” Grace Point Academy will be the antithesis of the current state of education in America by implementing a bible-based, classical education model, putting Jesus Christ at the center of all learning.
Our bible-based classical education model prepares young people to live in freedom and independence, engaging them in the highest matters and the deepest questions of truth, justice, virtue, and beauty. Our program encompasses a content-rich, traditional curriculum, including the use of classical books with an emphasis on the Bible, concentrated study of the core academic disciplines: history, literature, mathematics, and science, a strong focus on language, literacy, writing, and mastery of the English language and reading of the great books in literature and primary source documents in history.
Grace Point Academy students are challenged to live with excellence and moral character: spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, and through acts of service and obedience (1 Timothy 4:12, Matthew 28:19-20). Students receive an education, taught from a Biblical worldview, that equips them to lead, communicate effectively, think critically, make wise decisions, and express convictions confidently while developing a Biblical mindset (Romans 12:1-2). They develop a passion for life as they discover their God-given destiny (2 Timothy 1:6-7, Jeremiah 29:11). We pray that all students will maintain a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ throughout their lives (Psalms 92:12-15, Joshua 1:8-9), become active in a local church, prosper, continue to have a love for learning, demonstrate a concern for people, and be sought after in the professional world.
We believe that every student has a unique gifting and destiny. The academic program focuses on acquiring core content (Bible, literature, language arts, math, science, and history) complemented by fine arts, technology, physical education, and other classes to provide a solid classical liberal arts program. Athletics, leadership training, and co-curricular opportunities are taught with the same philosophy as the academic program. Each learner is regularly assessed to confirm the mastery and understanding of skills needed for lifelong learning and success.
All classes are taught by teachers who have committed their lives to Jesus Christ, who model the Christian life outlined in the GPA Statement of Faith, are led by the Holy Spirit, and are equipped to instruct using the Classical Education Model. Reliance on the leading of the Holy Spirit is a vital factor in the education process as teachers live out the truths of the Scripture in their daily interactions with students. As teachers interact with students, they model love while informing, motivating, directing, encouraging, disciplining, and evaluating. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit guides each teacher to integrate Biblical principles throughout the subject matter.
Students who are willing to learn about and follow God experience consistent growth in wisdom and character, as exemplified by Jesus and the study of the classics. We believe that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. As students submit to the instruction of their teachers, they learn to accept and walk in God's grace, freeing them to truly know spiritual truth and the content of each academic subject. As students and teachers honor and respect each other in an environment where Christ is lifted up and worshipped, each student is taught how to prepare for works of service (Ephesians 4:12), to develop an eternal view of life, to be in proper relationship with society, and to embrace intellectual development through the academic disciplines.
The curriculum is designed to prepare students for excellent service in their God-given destiny. All classes are taught with a Biblical worldview. No subject can be taught in the totality of its truth if the Creator is ignored or denied, whether history, science, language, math, technology, or the arts. We believe that knowledge is not enough to prepare a student for the abundant, joyful life that God has promised. Knowledge must be accompanied by wisdom and a system of godly values for education to be complete (Proverbs 4:7). We believe that God transforms lives into the image of Christ as the truths of God's living Word are applied to the content and skills taught.
The essence of the educational philosophy of Grace Point Academy can be found in Colossians. 1:28-29: "He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end, I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me."
